Dr. Malcolm Crowe is a child psychologist whose new patient, Cole Sear has a problem beyond his area of expertise. He claims that he is able to see the spirits of dead people around him. Cole has psychic powers but doesn’t understand his power and he cannot manage to control over them and he’s constantly scared of what he sees.
When Dr.Crowe met the child, he thought the child was having possible mental disorders. But later Dr.Crowe comes to believe that the child is telling the truth through some proofs. On the other hand, Dr. Crowe is also having some issues with his wife due to his dedication to his work and the wife thinks that she is always the second to him and unhappy and two of them, the child and the doctor share their secrets with each other and the child also trusts that Dr. Crowe is the only person who can help him.
Dr. Crowe suggests Cole that he should try to listen to them instead and perhaps aid them with their unfinished business on Earth. Cole at first too scared but he decides to try it. He finally talks to one of the ghosts, a very ill girl called Kyra who wants to give a message to her father that her stepmother is trying to kill her and her sister. Cole accomplished to help Kyra. And he even advises the doctor that he should try to talk to his wife while she is sleeping.
Crowe returns to his home and finds his wife asleep on the couch and as she sleeps, her hand releases their wedding ring, revealing the surprise ending of the film: Crowe was actually killed by Vincent, his previous patient and was unknowingly dead the entire time he was working with Cole. Crowe’s unfinished business are to rectify his failure to understand Vincent case which he failed to complete and the second reason is to tell his wife that she was never second and that he loves her. And finally he is free to leave the world of the living.
The ending part is much unpredicted and I was quite surprised. At the start of the movie, it seems to be a bit boring but it gets increasingly interesting as it goes deeper. We will see Cole's innocent little face hidden behind his absent father's large-framed spectacles betrays a child actor displayed such maturity role. It gives wondrous two-hours.
